THE NATIONAL CYBER SECURITY AGENCY

DOMAINS BORN
The second: the new operational domains of NATO, which alongside the three traditional areas of earth, sky and air, now also include cyber space and Space. With regard to the cyber arena, it is important to underline that an amendment to the decree on the Agency ensures the connection of the latter with the Ministry of Defense for aspects relating to projects and initiatives in collaboration with NATO and the European Defense Agency. As for Space, on the other hand, the recent meetings on the Rome-Paris-Brussels axis with the Minister of Economic Development as protagonists should be mentioned Giancarlo Giorgetti and the undersecretary Bruno Tabacci for Italy, the Minister of Economy Bruno the Mayor for France and the European Commissioner Thierry breton.
ENLARGED MEDITERRANEAN
The fourth: the so-called “triangle of instability” of the enlarged Mediterranean, with the Sahel at the center and the Indian Ocean, the Gulf of Guinea and Libya as its summit. The natural geopolitical sphere in which Italy’s national interests move is the subject of dynamics of destabilization. The “triangle” has various sensitivities. In North Africa, the addition of the crisis that opened in Tunisia to the still fragile Libyan stabilization must be noted; all in an area where Algeria and Morocco, as much as Egypt, suffer from constant sealing problems. The Horn is the subject of the Tigray armed crisis, which affects Ethiopia but expands to Eritrea and Sudan, as well as the issues concerning the Gerd, the Ethiopian dam on the Nile around which Egyptian concerns are rising. The Gulf of Guinea, where the Italian Navy is present in operations against piracy, closes the third side of a large, complex and articulated region where the interests of actors such as Russia and China and regional powers increasingly interested in using these territories also move. and related crises as an impetus for their international projection.
AFGHANISTAN
The third: Italian support for Afghanistan in the light of military disengagement. Dynamics similar to those of the enlarged Mediterranean unfold in Afghanistan and in the Eurasian territories, with those same actors committed to capitalizing on the fruits of the Western withdrawal from the country. With further attention to Italy, which emerged from Afghan soil will soon find itself coordinating the NATO mission in Iraq, oriented to the struggle but also a form of presence of the “Western system” in an area subject to external penetration.
THE BASE IN THE EMIRATES
The fifth: the cessation of the use of Al Mihad airport, in the United Arab Emirates, and the solutions for maintaining a logistical presence in the region so as not to overload that in Kuwait, “which has become the nerve center of our strategic support capabilities in the region ”, as explained in recent days by Guerini himself in Parliament. The minister also spoke of “ongoing diplomatic actions for the resumption of dialogue and the re-establishment of positive relations with the Arab Emirates, which certainly represent a strategic partner in the region”.
