Cholula, Puebla; to September 9, 2024.- On September 5 and 6, the General Directorate of Human Rights and Democracy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) in conjunction with the Department of International Relations and Political Science of the University of the Americas Puebla ( UDLAP) ), held, in the universities of the University, Discussion “Cybersecurity Security: For Future Digital Security for Women, Young People and Girls in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”

This international event features presentations by experts in the field, representatives of Social Networks GirlUp, Ley Olimpia, GENDES, as well as the participation of the Australian Ambassador to Mexico, Rachel Moseley, Ambassador Ulises Canchola, Ambassador for the Sciences Production mechanism of SREs, Cybersecurity Section of the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE) of the Organization of American States (OAS) and Dr. Leticia Bonifaz Alonzo, Independent Expert of the Committee for the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW Committee).

In addition to this, there is the participation of Representatives of United Nations Agencies, Andrea Cházaro, Director of Programs for the Elimination of Violence against Women of UN Women Mexico and Víctor Merchand, Director of Information Technologies and Cybercrime Area of United Nations Office. on Drugs and Crime in Mexico.

The event brought together more than 200 students from high schools and universities in the center of the country, with the aim of planning a space for discussion with speakers to share successful experiences and good practice in terms of full cybersecurity, analysis of obstacles and challenges. that women, youth and girls face in relation to cybersecurity, emerging digital technologies, and human rights.

During the opening ceremony, Mr. José Daniel Lozada Ramírez, Vice President of the University of UDLAP, indicated that events like this represent an important role to guarantee a safe space for women, youth and girls in all their diversity. In addition, he emphasized that the UDLAP Technical School with its gender balance could be a model for other faculties and emphasized the relevance of the role of women in this institution. On the other hand, a video was also published with some messages from the President of the National Women’s Institute (INMUJERES), Dr. Nadine Gasman.

Finally, the Under Secretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights, Amb. Joel Hernández concluded the speech and pointed out that this event began after the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Alicia Bárcena, made a new agreement from Mexico during the opening of the 78th session of the UN (September 2023) and in the context of the Midpoint Equality Generation Time Event that gives continuity to the results of the Generation Equality Conference.

This commitment seeks to establish a foundation in Mexico, focused on analyzing and expanding knowledge about the impact of digital and emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, on the well-being and safety of women, young people and girls, in all their diversity. With this platform, we seek to encourage the participation of women in decision-making and strengthen and promote the creation of public policies, standards and legislation on the subject.
