The word has been circulating for several days, it is now official. Julian Alaphilippe, 32, left Soudal Quick-Step training, with whom he has been playing since 2014, to join the Swiss training Tudor for three years. The latter have just announced it on X and indicated that two world champions will join them next year.

In its press release, Tudor indicated that Alaphilippe will be one of the training leaders. “I have to think about myself to make the right decision,” explained the runner the team. “I just listened to my heart, my intuition, like I always do. And from there, he set me free. I feel calm and even more so because I know I made the right choice. »

Well known faces

Inspired by “a young project but which immediately got off to a good start, with great ambitions” Julian Alaphilippe knows many members of the staff. His former teammate Matteo Trentin is one of them, as is club director Ricardo Scheidecker, who he knows as an assistant at Quick Step.

If there is no Tour de France this summer, Julian Alaphilippe participated in the Olympic Games with the French team after the Tour of Slovakia, where he won a stage. “Alaph” also won the fourth stage of the Tour of the Czech Republic at the end of July and finished second in the Clasica San Sebastian behind Marc Hirschi.

In recent months, the President of the Soudal-Quick Step Patrick Lefevere did not hesitate to say publicly that the recent results of France did not suit him, he accused the example of having “too many parties and too much wine”.

Above all, the salary of the former Tour yellow shirt has troubled Lefevere. Enough to create tension between the two men. “In life, everyone must justify their salary,” he said a year ago on RMC.
