From anonymous people to stars of the circuit. Since Sunday, the entire world of cycling has been paying tribute to Peter Sagan. There are thousands of messages on social media. Considered the last true rock star of the circuit with his ultra bright smile, his different haircuts, his eternal proximity to the public and his XXL track record, the Slovak rider put an end to his immense career on the road this weekend at the outcome of the Tour de Vendée. A race won by Arnaud Démare. Now a member of the Arkéa-Samsic team, the Frenchman won his 94th career victory.

Peter Sagan, for his part, has gleaned 121 successes on the road. Which places him among the legends of his sport. At 33, the three-time world champion (2015, 2016 and 2017) and seven-time winner of the green jersey on the Tour de France (a record) will now devote himself to mountain biking with the Paris 2024 Games in his sights. For this, he intends to compete in a few more smaller road races as basic preparation, but no more events at the World Tour level, the first division of world cycling.

In the meantime he has received a shower of tributes and testimonies on social networks. Some to salute his achievements, others to regret his departure and also to point out his whimsical side.

Among the messages we can notably point out that of the Ineos team which posted a photo where the person concerned is embedded in a photo of the British team in 2019. While Egan Bernal, crowned this year in the Tour de France , raises the glass as tradition with his partners, we can see Sagan in the background, very happy with his effect.
