In cycling too, women will have the same future as men. In an international calendar that gives more and more space to female riders by doubling the major events of their female counterpart, it is now up to the Tour de l’Avenir to change. This event has been considered for decades as the unofficial Tour de France for young people. From this year, it will also be available for women, with an event reserved for young hopeful girls under the age of twenty-three as for boys, the organizers of the cycling race announced on Tuesday.

Contested by national teams, this first Tour de l’Avenir ladies will start on August 28 from Saint-Vallier (Saône-et-Loire) to end at altitude on September 1 in Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise (Savoie).

It will be scheduled in the wake of the 59th edition of the men’s event (from August 20 to 27). The men’s edition will start from Carnac, in Morbihan, towards its traditional finish in Savoie, where the same resort of Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise will host the finish of the 8th and last stage.

The Belgian Cian Uijtdebroeks won last year (he has since confirmed this season by taking 9th place in the Tour of Oman and the Tour of Catalonia then 6th place in the recent Tour of Romandie). And the last recent proof that the Tour de l’Avenir remains a real springboard for the very high level, remember that the Double winner of the Tour de France (in 2020 and 2021), the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar won him in 2018.
