The Jumbo-Vismas are untouchable. After Primoz Roglic’s victory in the Tour of Italy and Jonas Vingegaard’s victory in the Tour de France, the Dutch team is now in an ideal position to win the Tour of Spain. This Friday, during the queen stage of this Vuelta which arrived at the top of the Col du Tourmalet, Jonas Vingegaard won 30 seconds ahead of the Red Jersey, Sepp Kuss, and 33 over Primoz Roglic. According to Gracenote, which has been collecting cycling statistics since 1989, this is the first hat-trick for the same team on a mountain stage of a Grand Tour since that date.

In the general classification too, the Jumbo-Visma are in battle order. Thanks to his second place, Sepp Kuss retains his leader’s tunic, while Primoz Roglic takes second place, 1′37″ behind the American. The winner of the day is third, at 1′44″.

The big loser of the day is Remco Evenepoel. Third in the general classification with this stage in France, the Belgian gave in at the Col d’Aubisque. Accompanied by the majority of his team, he never managed to recover from his terrible failure, and finally conceded more than 20 minutes to Jonas Vingegaard. He can now completely forget his dream of a double in the Tour of Spain.

Lenny Martinez and Joao Almeida are not faring any better. The Frenchman, 18th at 8′25″ from the Dane, leaves the top 10, while the presence in the top ten of the Portuguese, 15th at 6′47″, hangs by a thread. Finally, it is a quartet which is chasing the Jumbo-Visma trio. Juan Ayuso, Enric Mas, Marc Soler, Mikel Landa can still hope to grab a podium. But the affair promises to be very complicated as the domination of the Dutch team seems total.
