“These are processes that also reflect public sentiment, they are very similar to those in Europe. The public is talking more and more openly about where the problems are, and this is good, because some traditional and long-standing parties have forgotten a little. They think less and less about people and more and more about themselves. People will remember what they think about such parties, this is our life,” said D. Grybauskaitė to Elta.
However, she assures that she trusts the ability of the people of Lithuania to critically assess themselves, what to vote for in the Seimas elections to be held in October. Therefore, according to the president, the possible coming of radical forces to power is not a cause for concern.
“I am not worried, because I always trust the people of Lithuania and their decisions. Lithuania is not in danger yet. I really hope that we will elect a government that will really serve the people,” the politician said.
“There are instruments to make that power work for the people from the side: both journalists and the people themselves. We are a democracy and we will use all instruments because the government is accountable to the people,” she emphasized.
ELTA reminds that conservative leader G. Landsbergis told Elta that he sees the dangerous strengthening of undemocratic forces in Lithuania. As a result, according to the politician, parties on the left and right of the center could negotiate and thus prevent radical forces from coming to power after the autumn elections.
After the leader of the Social Democrats, Vilija Blinkevičiūta, said that after the next parliamentary elections, she could see a possible ruling coalition both with “Nemunas Aušra” led by Remigius Žemaitaitis, and with the Liberals, the chairwoman of the latter political force, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, emphasized that the Liberal movement is not on the way with populists or “after anti-Semitism radicals gathered under the flag”.
