Da Nang expels 10 party members after criminal indictments, detentions, and court convictions.
Meeting on October 22 under the leadership of Tran Thang Loi, member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the Inspection Committee, the municipal inspection body reviewed and executed party expulsions for individuals who violated regulations on what party members are prohibited from doing, breached exemplary responsibilities, and broke the law. According to Thanh Niên, the announcement regarding these conclusions and disciplinary actions was officially released on October 26.
The actions stem from an investigation by the Da Nang police into bribery and document forgery rings that allowed unauthorized building projects to bypass regulations, securing illegal water and electricity hookups. Tuổi Trẻ notes that the police prosecuted 8 officials (7 of whom are party members) belonging to the urban order team of Hoa Khanh ward for abusing their positions and powers to receive bribes totaling billions of dong.
Power Sector and Urban Management Officials Face Expulsion
Among those stripped of party membership are several figures from the Lien Chieu Power Branch and local urban management units. The list includes Trinh Thi Tinh, Deputy Secretary of the Chi Bo and Deputy Head of Lien Chieu Power; along with branch members Nguyen Van Ai and Nguyen Châu, both operating under the Danang Power Company within the Hai Chau Party Committee structure. Additional expulsions cover Doan Kim Nhu from Chi Bo 22 Thach Thang; Nguyen Anh Tuan, Nguyen Quang Dich, and Nguyen Giup from the Long Thanh village Chi Bo; Nguyen Huu Nhien from the Diem Dien village Chi Bo; Vo Huu Dung from the Economy, Infrastructure and Urban Affairs Department Chi Bo in West Hoi An ward; and Nguyen Van Chức from the Bo Mung 2 residential group Chi Bo in North Dien Ban ward.
Investigators established that groups of suspects created fraudulent dossiers and funneled bribes to officials to legalize illegal structures. Police have initiated prosecutions against a group of 4 suspects who are leaders and employees from Lien Chieu Power and Water Supply Enterprise No. 4. Concurrently, Tuổi Trẻ details that urban order personnel at the Hoa Khánh ward level accepted bribes totaling billions of dong to look the other way on illegal building work.
