Dabaiba discusses enhancing military cooperation with the United States

The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, received at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tripoli, the US Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Affairs, Celeste Wallander, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between Libya and the United States in the areas of combating terrorism, developing military capabilities, and border control..

The two parties discussed “supporting Libyan military training programmes and developing border control systems, in a way that enhances Libya’s capabilities to confront security threats.”

The meeting addressed “regional issues related to security and stability in North Africa,” and both parties affirmed “their commitment to enhancing security cooperation in a way that achieves common interests and contributes to supporting the stability of the region.”

The meeting also addressed the “danger of closing oil fields and vital resources,” as both sides stressed “the necessity of protecting these resources and ensuring their continued flow in a way that achieves the interests of the Libyan people and enhances economic stability.”

The meeting was attended from the Libyan side by Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs Walid Al-Lafi, Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Mohammed Al-Haddad and his deputy Lieutenant General Salah Al-Namroush, and Advisor to the Prime Minister Ibrahim Al-Dabaiba, and from the American side by Deputy Commander of the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) John Brennan, and Chargé d’Affairs of the US Embassy in Libya Jeremy Burnett.
