Dabaiba follows up on desalination plants and their production

The Government of National Unity, headed by Abdel Hamid Dabaiba, followed up on the technical conditions of the desalination stations and reviewed their production during his meeting with the Chairman and members of the Management Committee of the General Water Desalination Company and its General Manager.

During the meeting, Dabaiba stressed “the need to unify efforts between institutions related to water production and water supply, with the aim of providing drinking water to citizens in all Libyan regions and cities, and considering it a priority in development projects.”

He stressed “the necessity of preparing the necessary technical specifications to raise the efficiency of desalination plants, while completing the suspended water supply projects in a number of cities, and assigning the Great Man-Made River Authority and the General Company for Water and Sanitation, in cooperation with the General Company for Desalination, with the aim of developing a unified strategy of safe plans to provide drinking water, and considering it a priority in the development plans of the executive bodies.”

Al-Dabaiba also directed “to give priority to the maintenance and development of desalination plants located in municipalities that were not targeted by the Man-Made River waters in their completed stages.”

In turn, the Director General presented a visual presentation on the stations’ conditions, indicating that “the Tobruk station is operating at a production capacity of up to 20% of its capacity, the Derna station at a production capacity of 50% of its capacity after boiler maintenance during the past year, the Sousse station at a production capacity of up to 25% of its capacity, the Zliten stations have stopped, while the Zawiya desalination station is operating at a production capacity of up to 25% of its capacity, in addition to the Zuwara desalination station, which aims to supply the Zuwara, Al-Jamil, Ragdalin and Zliten areas, which is being maintained to raise production efficiency.”

The meeting was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, the Chairman of the Great Man-Made River Authority, the Director General of the Housing and Utilities Projects Implementation Authority, the Director of the Executive Authority for Well Drilling, and the Chairman of the Management Committee of the General Company for Water and Sanitation.
