Dabaiba holds an expanded meeting to follow up on the start of the school year

Today, Sunday, the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, held an expanded meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tripoli, to follow up on preparations for the start of the academic year in all its stages: general, university and technical.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Imran Al-Qaib; the Minister of Technical and Vocational Education, Yakhlef Al-Sayfaw; the Minister of Planning, Mohammed Al-Zaidani; the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Adel Jumaa; the Undersecretaries of the Ministry of Education; the Director General of the Administrative Centers Development Agency; the National Center for Examinations; the Educational Facilities Authority; the Center for Curricula and Educational Research; in addition to the Directors of the Department of Universities and Postgraduate Studies at the Ministry of Higher Education; and the Dean of the University Faculty Members.

According to what was reported by the government’s media office, Dabaiba stressed at the beginning of the meeting a set of instructions to the relevant ministries, the first of which is to adopt the curriculum calendar for the general and higher academic year, announce it in all its details, disburse the operating budget, complete the supply and distribution of school and vocational books to educational and training institutions, and furnish new schools with all their facilities, this is with regard to general education.

Al-Dabaiba directed the Ministries of Higher Education and Technical Education to settle the administrative and technical conditions of teaching assistants, implement the Cabinet’s decision regarding excellence bonuses for performance for faculty members, organize postgraduate studies domestically, pay faculty members’ dues, and carry out urgent maintenance of colleges and higher institutes to receive their students.

In turn, the Director of the Curriculum Center, Saif Al-Nasr Al-Hassan, presented a position on printing and distributing school books, confirming that 92% of school and vocational books had been supplied and the rest was being completed before the start of the school year.

The Director General of the Administrative Centers Development Authority also presented a position on the new schools targeted to be activated before the beginning of the year, with a total number of (214) schools within the Authority’s annual plan, assuring that school and office furniture for the new schools is available and will be installed before the beginning of the school year, stressing that the Authority’s plan includes 41 new schools during the 2024 school year.

Al-Qayeb presented a position regarding the start of the university academic year, stressing that September 1 is the date for faculty members to return to their colleges, and that the university and technical academic year will start on September 29, after the stage of downloading the study materials and distributing the schedules to faculty members is completed.

The Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Finance to complete the procedures related to teaching assistants and faculty members by implementing Cabinet Resolution No. (441) of 2024, regarding the disbursement of the distinction bonus in return for performance and targeted training hours for each faculty member.

Dabaiba also instructed the Ministry of Planning to complete the financial authorizations related to faculty members’ dues after verifying the accuracy of the data, stressing the need for universities and ministries to publish lists of targeted faculty members regarding postgraduate studies dues.

At the end of the meeting, Dabaiba stressed his continuous follow-up and support for the correct steps taken by the relevant ministries, considering that education at all its stages is the basis for development and reform of society.
