Dakhla 2024 Kitesurfing World Cup (men): Australian James Carew wins the title

Carew won during this competition, organized under the patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, with a score of 17.17 points, while the Brazilian Pedro Matos, second, finished the competition with a score of 11.70 points.

The Australian beat the other Brazilian, Gabriel Benetton, in the semi-final (13.17 against 12.30), while Pedro Matos qualified at the expense of the Italian Airton Cozzolino (14.85 against 12.17).

Third position went to Cozzolino after his victory against the Brazilian Gabriel Benetton (15.97 against 14.97).

Four Moroccans qualified for the 3rd round of the Kitesurfing World Cup, namely Mounim Maji who won his qualification ticket in the first round, played on Monday, Mohammed Ali Bakkali, Ismail Adarzane and Ghali Khtour qualified on Tuesday.

The Moroccan riders did not manage to pass this round after the defeat of Mounim Maji against the Swiss Hendrick Lopes (7.67 against 13.37), and the elimination of Mohammed Ali Bakkali for not having worn the yellow t-shirt of the competition .

Ismail Adarzane lost to the Bulgarian Nicola Abadjiev (11.27 against 11.60), while his compatriot Ghali Khtour was beaten by the Brazilian Gabriel Benetton by 5.83 against 10.97.

In a statement to MAP, world champion James Carew indicated that the competition was tough to win the title, stressing that his coronation at the end of this competition constitutes a source of pride.

He expressed his joy at visiting the city of Dakhla which offers several assets and is characterized by its ideal climatic conditions for kitesurfing, as well as the warm welcome.

The Brazilian Pedro Matos, for his part, expressed his satisfaction with his performance, specifying that this is his fifth visit to Dakhla, a beautiful and welcoming city.

Focused on the socio-sporting and tourist development of the Region and Morocco, this event which sees the participation of 70 riders from 17 countries, proves, year after year, its place and its notoriety as an unmissable event for surfing, kitesurfing and wingfoiling.
