Dakhla: lifting of ban on collection and marketing of mussels collected in the “Puertito” area

Rabat – The Department of Maritime Fisheries announced, Thursday, the lifting of the ban on the collection and marketing of mussels collected in the shellfish farming area classified as Puertito, within the maritime district of Dakhla.

Examined by the Technical Committee in charge of monitoring the marine environment and shellfish, the results of analyses carried out by the National Institute of Fisheries Research (INRH) in this area showed “stability of the environment and total purification of mussels in the said area”, explains a press release from the Department of Maritime Fisheries.

As a result, the Department has decided to “lift the ban (subject of the press release of August 16, 2024) on the collection and marketing of mussels collected in the shellfish farming area classified as Puertito within the maritime district of Dakhla”.

Furthermore, consumers are advised to only purchase packaged products, bearing health identification labels and sold in authorized points of sale (official markets).

Shellfish peddled or sold in bulk do not present any guarantee of healthiness and constitute a danger to public health, warns the Department.
