Dakhla: Nearly 250 MDH for the implementation of drinking water supply and liquid sanitation projects

Thus, the wali of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, governor of the province of Oued Eddahab, Ali Khalil, accompanied in particular by the regional director of the Saharan provinces of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE ), -Water Branch-, Mohamed Boubekri, the general director of the Dakhla Aménagement et Développement Company, Khalid Zouhari and elected officials, gave, Monday, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the glorious Feast of the Throne, the kick-off to two projects relating to the upgrade of the drinking water distribution network and that of liquid sanitation, falling within the framework of the priority upgrade program level of the city of Dakhla.

The first project relating to the rehabilitation of the drinking water distribution network consists of upgrading the drinking water distribution network, for a total amount of more than 72.32 MDH.

This project, the duration of which will be 8 months, will be carried out as part of a partnership between the wilaya of Dakhla, the Regional Council, the Municipal Council, the Provincial Council of Oued Eddahab, ONEE – Water Branch – and the Dakhla Aménagement et Développement Company.

It concerns the rehabilitation of 79 km of drinking water pipes and 7,323 connections, with a view to improving the efficiency of the distribution network and minimizing water losses, capable of achieving a definitive and sustainable solution to supply the city ​​of Dakhla with drinking water.

The second project, for its part, consists of upgrading the liquid sanitation network in several districts of the city, including ”Al Massira”, ”Al Wakala”, ”Oum Tounssi”, ” Al Amal” and “El Kassam”.

Mobilizing a budget of more than 112.35 million dirhams, this project, whose completion time is estimated at 7 months, provides for the establishment of 53 km of canals dedicated to liquid sanitation and 2,150 connections.

Likewise, the wali and the delegation accompanying him inquired about the project relating to the strengthening of the supply of the city of Dakhla with drinking water (Urgent tranche), requiring a budget envelope of 64 MDH, including the rate of progress of the works reached more than 90%.

Supported by ONEE -Water Branch-, in partnership with the wilaya of the region and the municipality of Dakhla, this project consists of equipping and connecting two new boreholes and renewing the water supply pipe connecting the 1,000 m reservoir. m3 in Taourta to the 500 m3 reservoir in the Nahda district over a length of 19 km, in addition to the construction of a semi-buried reservoir with a capacity of 1,500 m3 in the same district.

This project will make it possible to considerably reduce the drinking water deficit in Dakhla, with a view to ensuring its drinking water supply from the large shared desalination station (agriculture/drinking water), the work of which is in progress. currently under construction and its commissioning planned for the end of 2025.
