Dakhla-Oued Eddahab: A Gambian delegation explores investment opportunities in the region

The visit of this delegation, led by Mr. Abdoulie TB Jarra, Secretary General in the Office of the President of the Republic of Gambia, is part of the week of economic promotion of Gambia in Morocco (from September 9 to 13), with the aim of promoting the economic potential of Gambia in the Kingdom in various sectors of activity and of encouraging the development of win-win business partnerships.

This trip was an opportunity for the delegation to examine ways to strengthen economic cooperation relations between Moroccan and Gambian operators, and to learn about the main structuring projects in Dakhla-Oued Eddahab and the momentum of development and progress that this region is experiencing at all levels.

In a statement to the press, the Director of African Affairs at the Gambian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Omar Baldeh, indicated that this visit confirms the depth of friendly relations between Morocco and Gambia, expressing his country’s desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation in different areas, particularly in the economic sector.

Other economic missions will be organized so that Gambian economic actors can learn about the development momentum that the Kingdom is experiencing at all levels, noted Mr. Baldeh, saying he was “impressed” by the remarkable development that Dakhla is experiencing and the business opportunities offered by this region, which constitutes a promising economic hub.

For his part, the Director General of the Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency (GIEPA), Ousainou Sheikh Senghore, noted that the areas of renewable energy, tourism, fisheries and infrastructure, are priority areas of bilateral cooperation, stressing the need to further strengthen the partnership between the two countries in various areas for the benefit of the respective populations.

On this occasion, the members of the Gambian delegation followed a presentation given by the Director General of the Regional Investment Center (RIC), Mounir Houari, in which he detailed, with figures, the main productive sectors of the region, such as maritime fishing, agriculture, tourism, renewable energies and aquaculture.

With the aim of promoting the development of win-win business partnerships between Moroccan and Gambian operators, a member of the Gambian delegation gave a presentation in which he focused on the investment ecosystem of Gambia, its investment policy, as well as the business opportunities offered by this country.

During this visit, the members of the delegation held talks with the Wali of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, governor of the Oued-Eddahab province, Ali Khalil, and the vice-president of the regional council, Lamyna Maayef.

The Gambian economic delegation is composed in particular of the Director General of the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), Sarata Conateh and several senior officials from the public and private sectors of Gambia.

It should be noted that the week of economic promotion of Gambia in Morocco is part of the actions that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad is implementing to support Morocco’s economic diplomacy on an international scale, through the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI) and its partners.
