Dallas Cowboys Defensive End Sam Williams Arrested on Drug and Weapons Charges
Dallas Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams has found himself in trouble with the law once again. Over the weekend, Williams was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and unlawful carrying of a weapon. This is not the first time Williams has faced legal issues as a member of the Cowboys.
Last December, Williams was involved in a serious car accident that resulted in an arrest warrant. It was revealed that Williams was driving at a staggering speed of up to 98 miles per hour, causing the accident and landing him and the other driver in the hospital.
Initially, the Cowboys declined to comment on Williams’ latest arrest. However, team owner Jerry Jones recently made some surprising remarks about the situation. Jones stated, “Well, first of all, I’m seeing that he is as — which is more often the case than not — this sounds a little hollow — but he does and is… maturing. And he is. What was he going, 66 miles an hour? So he’s 34 miles an hour less this year than he was last year. 98 to 66. So that’s improvement.”
Despite the serious charges of possession and carrying a weapon, Jones seemingly dismissed them, pointing out that Williams was not driving as recklessly as before. While Jones’ comments may have been intended as a joke, it may not have been the most appropriate response given the circumstances.
Williams, 24, was selected by the Cowboys in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss. In his rookie season, he played in 15 games and made a significant impact with 22 combined tackles, four sacks, and three fumble recoveries.
As the legal proceedings unfold, Williams’ future with the Cowboys remains uncertain.
