Damascus Airport opened for the first time since December 8, 2024 for the arrival and departure of regular international flights.

As Day.Az reports, TASS was informed about this by the airport information service.

“Yes, the reception of planes has resumed, we are expecting a flight from Qatar, it has already taken off,” the agency’s interlocutor said, referring to the flight of the national airline of the emirate, Qatar Airways, from Doha. The Qatari side announced the resumption of flights on this route with a standard frequency of three times a week on January 2. In addition, the airport received a cargo plane from Riyadh in the morning.

Also, according to the national airline Syrian Airlines, flights between Damascus and Dubai will open on January 7. Another Syrian carrier, Cham Wings, is resuming daily flights to Sharjah.

The capital’s airport is so far the only one of the country’s four airports that has returned to normal operations. Syria’s second largest airport, in the city of Aleppo, has extended a special operating regime until January 12, implying the need for special permission from the Syrian aviation authorities to receive or release an aircraft. Flights from two more airports – Latakia and Al-Qamishli – are suspended until January 21.
