‘Coppelia’ made its debut at La Scala on 17 December in a new choreographic version, signed by the Russian choreographer Alexei Ratmansky, created for the corps de ballet, the principal dancers and the étoiles led by Manuel Legris. Performed for the first time in 1870 at the Paris Opéra, to the music of Léo Delibes, ‘Coppélia’ ranks among the masterpieces of the ballet repertoire. There have been many choreographic versions of this title, documented at La Scala since the end of the nineteenth century. The last production for the Scaligero Ballet dates back to 2009.

The language of Alexei Ratmansky, for this new production, unfolds on the music of Delibes, one of the most beloved ballet scores, very rich in subtleties, themes and motifs that characterize action, plot and characters. A wealth of colors and nuances, both stylistic and choreographic, which will allow the talents of the Company, with which Ratmansky has a long-standing association, to show off their personalities and versatility, driven by the character of Swanilda. True driving force of the action, with her intelligence and determination she teaches Franz, Coppélius, and all of us that love is not a perfect face, but requires and deserves much more.

On 15 December (6pm) the meeting open to the public held by Sergio Trombetta entitled ‘Never fall in love with a stranger at the window’ is scheduled at the Ridotto dei Palchi ‘A.Toscanini’.
