Thiruvananthapuram: Renowned dancer Mallika Sarabhai has been appointed as the Chancellor of Kalamandalam Kalpita University. The government issued an order in this regard. V.N. said that it was decided to appoint Mallika Sarabhai as the chancellor of Kalamandal as part of the government’s decision to appoint people with expertise in the subject as chancellors of universities. Earlier, the government had removed the governor from the post of chancellor of the university through a special order. The UGC’s provision is that the sponsoring agency of the proposed university can take a decision on the chancellor. Because the sponsoring agency of Kalamandalam is the government, it was possible to issue a special order to remove the governor.

The government had announced that a prominent personality in the field of arts and culture will be appointed as the chancellor. The appointment will be for five years. An age limit of 75 years was also fixed for the chancellor.
