Berlin – Singer Danger Dan (38) won the pop culture award three times. The musician, nominated in four categories, who otherwise also plays in the Antilopen Gang, not only delivered the favorite song and album of the year with “This is all covered by artistic freedom”. He was also chosen by the jury as the favorite solo artist on Wednesday evening in Berlin.

With his songs, Danger Dan has transferred the tradition of political songwriting into contemporary rap versions.
In the favorite video category, he had to give way to singer Mine (35) with her piece “Hinüber”. The producer was also chosen as the favorite solo artist.
There was a division of prizes for the favorite bands: Giant Rooks (“Rookery”) and Die Ärzte (“Hell”) were awarded equal points. The young Zoe Wees (“Golden Wings”) from Hamburg is considered the most hopeful newcomer. Markus Ganter (AnnenMayKantereit, “12”) is this year’s favorite producer. The multiple reunited No Angels (“Daylight in Your Eyes”, “20”) received a Lifetime Achievement Award and standing ovations.
The #DeutschrapMeToo campaign, which fights against abuse in the industry, was recognized as the most exciting idea of the year. The “Tour d’Amour” initiative, in which people from the music scene campaign for refugees, received the prize for living pop culture.
The pop culture award was presented for the first time in 2016. There were twelve categories this year. The award is a jury award, it is given on behalf of around 800 members of the Association for the Promotion of Pop Culture. The aim is to promote diversity, outstanding merits and achievements in the pop culture scene. Music makers founded the award as an alternative to commercial trophies.
