Danger of beamless construction! Engineers warn home builders

by time news
Engineers have warned that more houses are being built in Coimbatore without the guidance of engineers and due to wrong construction methods.

The construction sector in Coimbatore is growing exponentially year by year. Due to industrial growth, the population and consequently the demand for housing is increasing.

Thousands of apartment buildings and detached houses are being built across the city by construction companies.

Apart from these, many individuals buy land and build houses on their own land.

Thus, most of the home builders build houses with the help of engineers they know or someone recommends, according to the building plans they put up, and get permission.

But as the budget of engineers is high and some engineers leave the job half way, recently the trend of building houses without an engineer is increasing. Many build houses by hiring licensed building surveyors, buying building permits, and hiring masons and construction workers.

Houses built without an engineer are dangerous because they are built in an unsafe manner, engineers’ organization executives warn.

They pointed out that the construction violated the rules of integrated development and would cause huge damage in the future.

Kanakasundaram, former president of the Registered Professional Engineers Association, said:

According to the Tamil Nadu Integrated Development and Building Rules 2019, a building should be constructed only under the supervision of an engineer. As the authorities refuse to implement this, many houses are built in Coimbatore with masons. Shockingly, houses are built without ‘beams’ connecting the pillars to reduce costs.

It violated the laws of engineering; Insecure. Building such structures in earthquake prone areas is extremely dangerous.

Building such houses without looking at the quality and looking at the cost will have a huge impact on the future generation. So, people should avoid this; It is the duty of the municipal authorities to prevent such buildings and enforce development rules.

Thus, he said.

It’s not just the officers; It is a matter of utmost importance that people should also take note of -our reporter-.
