Olmo has been on everyone’s lips for a few years now, and has been linked with top clubs from time to time, but he hasn’t moved anywhere. Leipzig is a good option for young players. The Bulls are high up in the Bundesliga and regularly make it to the Champions League playoffs. But Dani is already 26 years old. Perhaps he’s overstayed his welcome at the Red Bull Arena and it’s time to take the next step in his career. After the Euros, he’s certainly become the second most talked about player on the transfer market after Williams. Maybe something will happen in the summer.
Everyone notes Olmo’s skills, but for some reason he still hasn’t managed to break into a top club. Although Dani has been showing his worth since childhood. At the age of 7, the Spaniard entered the Barcelona academy, where he became the top scorer in his age categories 4 times. But the Catalans never appreciated the talent of their pupil, so in the summer of 2014, the young midfielder left the “blue garnets” and moved to Dinamo Zagreb as a free agent, signing his first professional contract. In February 2015, he debuted in the first team of the “blues” and immediately set a record.
Olmo became the youngest foreigner to debut for Dynamo at the age of 16. However, Dani took a long time to get going in Croatia. The Spaniard found stability only in the 2017/18 season, scoring 8 goals in the Croatian championship. In that campaign, the midfielder was already a key player for Dynamo. The following season, Olmo repeated his scoring rate, and in 2019, he was recognized as the best player in the Croatian championship. At the same time, the player helped the Spanish U-21 team win the European Championship, scoring a goal in the final match against Germany.
In total, Olmo played 124 matches for the first team of Dinamo Zagreb, scored 34 goals and made 28 assists. Luckily for Olmo, he spent the European Championship without injuries. Dani started the tournament as a substitute, but already from the 3rd round of the group stage he began to show his best qualities. The Spaniard scored in three matches in a row and assisted his teammates twice. The midfielder fit perfectly into Luis de la Fuente’s system and rightly became one of the best players of the tournament. Olmo showed good results at the Euro, but perhaps his best moment in the tournament was clearing the ball from the goal line in the final match against the England team. This moment may have been the key one in the confrontation between the “Red Fury” and the English.
It is no surprise that interest in Olmo has grown again after his successful performance at the big tournament. According to rumours, Barcelona, Bayern and Manchester City are interested in signing the player. Big clubs are on the horizon, but again there is no guarantee that the transfer will take place. The Catalans consider Nico Williams their main target in the transfer market. The Blaugrana will do or not do something only after the situation with the Athletic winger becomes clearer. And he is in no hurry to make a decision about his future.
For the Munich team, Dani is a backup option in case they fail to sign Xavi Simons. The Citizens are considering the Spaniard as a possible replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, but the Belgian is not going anywhere yet. And Manchester City still have options. Olmo has already done everything to sign what is probably the most important contract of his career. But this is not happening yet. And Leipzig should not be written off. It is unlikely that the Bulls will demand less than 60 million euros for the player, which is included in his release clause. The options are not “iron-clad”, but they are there. It is time for the European champion to take the next step – at the club level.
