The Binational Cabinet meeting was held in Lima, the Peruvian capital. Peru does not rule out cooperation and agreements in the areas of mining and energy.

Common problems such as insecurity, poverty and unemployment were part of the agenda discussed on July 4 by the presidents of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, and Peru, Dina Boluarte.

Both leaders and their ministers held the 15th Binational Cabinet meeting in Lima, where they also discussed development and social inclusion, promotion of trade, tourism and investments.

In his speech, Boluarte said that this is a good opportunity to talk with Ecuador about cooperation and possible agreements in the mining and energy sectors, without neglecting environmental management.

The Binational Cabinet between Peru and Ecuador was established in 2007 and “is the highest level mechanism for dialogue and political-diplomatic coordination between both countries,” the Peruvian government said.

At the end of this meeting, the leaders signed the Lima 2024 Action Plan. This document lists 49 points to strengthen the bilateral relationship and improve the quality of life of the populations on both sides of the border. Noboa acknowledged that much of her fight against organized crime has had the cooperation of Peruvian law enforcement, so she invited her counterpart to continue to confront “common threats.”

Daniel Noboa’s Activities

Noboa’s agenda will include a subsequent visit, in the afternoon of July 4, to the Lima City Hall, where he will receive the keys to the city from the mayor, Rafael López Aliaga.

The Ecuadorian leader will then meet with representatives of the company Perú Rail, the concessionaire of the train that transports passengers to Machu Picchu.
