Daniel Salcedo, prosecuted in the Metastasis case, was transferred on the afternoon of this Saturday, April 13, from the Cotopaxi prison to the La Roca maximum security prison.

The details of this procedure have not been specified by the SNAI authorities. According to information accessed by Ecuavisa, Salcedo arrived at La Roca prison after 12:30 p.m.

On April 3, Salcedo had withdrawn an appeal for habeas corpus, with which he sought to go to prison 4 in Quito, a detention center where he was held while he was imprisoned for several cases, among them, for procedural fraud, bringing prohibited objects into prison and embezzlement, the latter related to hospital corruption during the pandemic.

However, in December 2022, the then judge of Paján, Simón García, who is now being prosecuted for the Plaga case, decided to grant him freedom, because he considered that in all those cases, Salcedo was still under preventive detention.

This allowed him to flee to Colombia, and later settle in Panama. However, with his connection to the Metastasis case, and a new preventive detention order, on January 3, 2024, he became one of the 39 prosecuted for organized crime, when a criminal structure led by drug trafficker Leandro Norero was discovered. 13 days later, on January 16, he was brought from the Central American country along with Álvaro Ponce, former manager of the Guasmo Sur Hospital, and also prosecuted for corruption during the COVID-19 pandemic. On January 20 he was transferred to the Cotopaxi prison.
