Daniela Ryf is now retiring from high-level sports. Health issues have forced the 37-year-old from Solothurn to make this decision earlier.
Daniela Ryf had planned to end her brilliant career at the end of this year. “I want to give my best this season, win a big race, and enjoy competing. With the T100 series and the Ironman World Championships in Nice, I have an exciting year ahead of me with high-level races,” she wrote on her website.
“The treatment was not as effective as expected”
However, an inflammation of the coccyx, which is the reason for her persistent pain, has compelled the five-time Ironman world champion to change her mind. “I was hoping that the treatment would allow me to participate in races again towards the end of the season,” Daniela Ryf wrote on social media.
“We tried everything, but the treatment was not as effective as expected. I have certainly regained solid physical condition, but my injury prevents me from training with the usual scope and intensity. It is time to respect the signals my body is sending me.“
