On July 22, the preparatory hearing for the Encuentro case, in which 10 people are accused of alleged organized crime, will be reinstated.

Among those involved are: Danilo Carrera, brother-in-law of former President Guillermo Lasso; Hernán Luque, former president of EMCO; Antonio Icaza, former manager of CNEL; operators Leonardo Cortázar and Gabriel Massuh; and contractors Karen Cornejo and Érika Farias.

Julio León, Jorge Orbe and Roberto Bueno are also considered operators, although the Prosecutor’s Office is expected to refrain from charging them.

Anti-Corruption Judge Renán Andrade validated this Friday, July 5, all actions taken by the Prosecutor’s Office, after hearing the arguments of the defense regarding possible nullity defects.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, during Guillermo Lasso’s government, bribes were collected for positions and contracts with the State, taking advantage of the position of Hernán Luque, who is currently in Argentina, awaiting extradition to Ecuador.
