Danny Avdia was only one assist away from his first triple-double in his NBA career, when Washington surrendered tonight (between Friday and Saturday) 96:87 to the Eastern Conference leader Detroit in a meeting between two of the weakest teams of the season in the league.
The Israeli scored 18 points (6-for-14 from the field, 2-for-6 from outside the arc and 4-for-4 from the free-throw), when he added 11 rebounds and nine assists in 39 minutes. He scored most of his points in the second half, when the Wizards erased a significant deficit.
The Pistons already led by 19 points at the break, but in the final minutes the Wizards reduced the difference to only 4, when Avdia gave his ninth assist 3:24 to the end, but from that moment the host was unable to score until the end of the game.
Washington thereby dropped to a balance of 60:14, Detroit with 61:13 and it seems that the two will compete for who will finish with the most unflattering balance in the regular season. The one who looks great is the Pistons star Cade Cunningham who finished with 33 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists.
On the other side, Corey Kispert stood out with 23 points shooting 75% from the field, Marvin Bagley scored 15 points along with 11 rebounds and Jordan Paul (7 points) and Kyle Kuzma (12) recorded a particularly lukewarm and disappointing performance for them.
The next meeting of the Wizards will be at home against Miami on Sunday and Monday. Avdia can take solace in the fact that he continued his streak of scoring 14 or more points in 12 straight games.
