“Dante in the world”, Virgil “duke” of the great poet

Metaphor of the light of Reason that guides men in understanding, the figure of Virgil is here enriched by the analysis of the poet’s close ties with Tunisia, and Carthage in particular. Supported by the research carried out by Professor Raimondo Fassa, lecturer of Italian at the Campus Universitaire Manouba in Tunis, the professors Meriem Dhouib, associate professor of Italian Studies of the same institute and Mirko Tavoni, former professor of Dante philology at the University of Pisa. One of the most successful theatrical and cinematographic actors of North Africa, Ahmed Hafiane, completes the path to the discovery of Virgil by interpreting some significant verses from the first two canticles of the Comedy (Canti I, II, XVI, V, IV of the Inferno and Canti XXVII and XXX of Purgatory read in the translation by Kadhem Jihad (AL’MU’ASSAT AL ARABIA LE DIRASAT, Beirut 2002) Filming locations: Bardo Museum of Tunis; Archaeological Museum of Carthage, Baths of Antoninus, Tofet, Porto Punico, Cisterns ( all in Carthage); Ennejma Ezzahra Palace in Sidi Bou Said.
