Names already known to the Bilbao public for having danced in the city in one of La Fundición’s programs, such as Chey Jurado, Ertza, Estévez/Paños and Jesús Rubio Gamo, will participate between the end of September and the month of December in the next edition de Dantzaldia, which, as always, includes a dozen appointments with the most diverse contemporary dance in different venues in Bizkaia (among them the Guggenheim Museum, the Deusto hall itself, the Bellas Artes and the Barakaldo Theater). This time even the Eurovisiva Blanca Paloma comes to the festival’s call, who will participate in a proposal by Rubio Gamo in which many other artists collaborate.

The program is not yet completely closed, but for the moment some of those contemporary dancers are already known, with recognized careers, who will parade through Bilbao. For example, the one who will perform on October 3 in the hall of the old Bellas Artes building, under the watchful eye of Juan Muñoz’s sculptures ‘Hanging Figures’. It will be Chey Jurado, recent Ojo Crítico Award 2022, who began his career as a self-taught dancer of ‘Breakin’ and ‘Poppin’ in 2005 and who has been training and collaborating with some of the leading platforms and companies in urban dance until, In mid-2016, he made his debut as director and choreographer of his own work, ‘Agua’, and founded his own company. He will arrive in Bilbao with ‘Samsara’, along with Javito Mario. After them, because the program for that afternoon is double, it will be the turn of the Basques Ertza and hers ‘Otempodiz’, a choreography by Asier Zabaleta from Gipuzkoa for the Mozambican dancers Fenias Nhumaio and Deissane Machava.

In November, on the 11th, the setting will be the Guggenheim Museum and the artists, the flamenco artists Rafael Estévez and Valeriano Paños, or what is the same, Estévez/Paños y Compañía, who were National Dance Prize winners in 2019. They will offer a triptych of short pieces (from 15 minutes for the first to 35 minutes for the third) made up of ‘Silencios’ (2016), ‘Campanillero’ (2021) and the very recent ‘Nondedéu’.

On November 18, Dantzaldia will move to the Barakaldo Theater, where Jesús Rubio Gamo and a few other artists will show their ‘Simple Actions’. It is a large format show with flamenco overtones in which a quintet of dancers (including Olaia Valle from Biscay) and a live trio of musicians led by Blanca Paloma, the last representative of Spain in Eurovision, take part. With ‘Gran Bolero’, which could be seen in its day at the Barakaldo Theater, Rubio Gamo won the MAX Award for Best Dance Show 2020.

Another confirmed appointment with dance this autumn is that of the Portuguese Filipe Moreira, who on October 29 will strip naked at La Fundición for ‘Escuta’, a solo about silence created and performed by himself.
