The Darts World Cup goes on its home straight without Germans. After Florian Hempel, Gabriel Clemens also lost his third round match. The “German Giant” had no chance against an impressively strong Jonny Clayton.
EThere was a small glimmer of hope that flared up at the beginning of the third movement. Gabriel Clemens checked 114 points for the break, which meant the 1-0 lead. The German hadn’t played badly against Jonny Clayton before and had an average of 96 points. It was only enough for two legs: 1: 3, 1: 3.
Clayton gave a demonstration of his form strength that made him a favorite for the title at the World Darts Championship. The Welshman was ten points better at the time and deservedly won 4-0 in the end.
“I hope that I have a good score today. And if that’s the case, I know that I can be dangerous to anyone, ”Clemens said before the third round match at DAZN. The problem: Clayton’s scoring was free of weaknesses and mistakes. He threw seven 180s and 18 shots with 140 points or more, more than twice as many as Clemens (2/10).

The Welshman also countered the brief moment of the lead in round three. The 47-year-old put out 74 points over double-17s and tops. A sign of self-confidence and world class.
Clemens, whose average fell to 87.66 in the last set, only had four leg wins at 0: 4 (1: 3, 1: 3, 2: 3, 0: 3). “I was there, he was quite good,” he said sarcastically: “but I hardly got any chances. You just have to put up with that. ”Clayton ended up with a throwing average of 102.56 despite a weak double quota of 37.5 percent. The Welshman will now meet Michael Smith, who is also in good shape, in the round of 16.
The Darts World Cup is thus heading for its home straight without German participation. In the afternoon, debutant Florian Hempel failed 4-1 at Australian Raymond Smith.
