New Delhi : There are about 62 thousand such cases pending in different High Courts of the country, which are more than 30 years old. Three of these cases are awaiting settlement since 1952. According to official figures, four cases are pending in the High Courts since 1954 and nine cases since 1955. Out of the three cases pending since 1952, two are in Calcutta High Court and one in Madras High Court.

According to the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG), there are about 2.45 lakh cases pending in the High Courts, which are 20 to 30 years old. Addressing the same event, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal had called for breaking the notion that Indian courts follow a ‘date pe date culture’.
