The acclaimed director Brett Morgan is coming to the Jerusalem Cinematheque for a one-time meeting following his film “David Bowie: Moonage Daydream”.

The documentary film screened at the Cannes Film Festival 2022, the Jerusalem Film Festival 2022, is an experiential cinematic journey that explores the work, vision and music of one of the most important artists in popular culture.

The film was directed by acclaimed filmmaker Brett Morgan and in official collaboration with the executors of Bowie’s estate. The film is the fruit of half a decade’s work and features never-before-seen footage, video art, rare performances and all of Bowie’s greatest hits.

Over the past 20 or so years, Morgan has directed a number of groundbreaking and critically acclaimed documentaries. The one known as the “mad scientist” of documentary cinema, approaches every project as an opportunity to break the boundaries of the genre. His films are meant to feel like experiences and not like history lessons – as he says, “Books are a great tool to learn the history of a subject, but for me, cinema is a place to experience the essence of the subject”. Morgan made films about a variety of subjects: from athletes, through punk and rock artists to cultural icons. His films are characterized by a spectacular use of archive footage and rhythmic editing that allow him to bring to the screen exciting and fun portraits of significant figures and periods in history. Among his films are “The Boy Left Behind”, “Jane”, “Chicago 10”, “Cobain: Montage of Heck”.

“David Bowie: Moonage Daydream”, a film that is a must-see not only for fans of David Bowie. After researching music giants Kurt Cobain and the Rolling Stones, Morgan turned this time to deal with the groundbreaking British musician. The result is not a documentary in the usual sense of the word, but a rich and comprehensive audio-visual project, a kind of cinematic trip that creatively and spectacularly combines various raw materials: clips from live performances; Images related to Bowie’s sources of inspiration, the period in which he lived and his legacy, and mainly archival clips of interviews with him, and recordings in which he reflects on his life and interprets his teachings.
