Beyond the tour, Byrne continues to engage with contemporary issues.Weeks after the album’s release, he unveiled the single ‘T-shirt’, a collaboration with Brian Eno, addressing the importance of mutual support in a challenging political landscape. During North American performances, the song was presented alongside provocative slogans like ‘Make America Gay Again’ and ‘No Kings’. Byrne has a history of political commentary, notably curating the playlist ‘The Stunning Shitholes’ in 2018 as a response to reported comments made by then-President Donald Trump.
The tour has already been marked by memorable moments, including Byrne’s performance of the Talking Heads’ classic ‘psycho Killer’ for the first time in 19 years. He was also joined onstage in New York City by Hayley Williams, performing Paramore’s ‘Hard Times’ alongside their collaborative track, ‘What Is The Reason For It?’.
Last month, byrne further demonstrated his willingness to engage with contemporary music by covering Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” to celebrate the song’s five-year anniversary. Rodrigo herself expressed her admiration for Byrne, stating on Instagram, “I actually cried when I heard his version of this song,” calling him “one of my all-time heroes.” The B-side of the limited-edition ruby 7″ release featured a live rendition of Talking Heads’ “Burning Down The House,” performed with Rodrigo at New York’s Governors Ball festival last summer.
Fans eager to secure tickets for the new UK and Ireland dates should be prepared for the on-sale at 10am on Friday, February 6.
