David Graham, the actor who voiced characters in TV series including Peppa Pig, Thunderbirds and Doctor Who, has died aged 99.
As the voice of the villainous Daleks in the Doctor Who series, Graham “terrified” generations of children between the 1960s and the late 1970s, writes the BBC.
He is also well known as the voice of Aloysius Parker, a valet and driver in the 1960s TV series The Thunderbirds and its film sequels.
But to today’s generation of kids, he is best known as the voice of Grandpa Pig in the Peppa Pig TV series.
On screen, David Graham appeared in two episodes of the first series of Doctor Who as an actor, but became much better known as the unemotional, harsh voice of the Daleks.
The London-born actor told The Mirror that he already knew what career he wanted to pursue, writes bTV.
“At school I always wanted to say the poem or read the story. I’ve always wanted to play,” he told the newspaper.
However, he had to put his acting interests on hold when World War II broke out. Graham works as a radar mechanic.
Disliking his post-war job as an office worker, he goes to live with his sister and her husband in New York, where he attends drama school.
After returning home, he worked in theater before landing a job on the first series of Doctor Who.
There are also cameos in the ITV series Coronation Street, The Bill and London’s Burning, and the BBC dramas Doctors and Casualty.
