Barring any major surprises, the game is over. The LR mayor of Cannes David Lisnard will reappoint for a second term as president of the Association of Mayors of France (AMF), his “only candidacy” having “been submitted”, she announced in a press release. The suitors had until Monday to come forward.

As announced at the end of August, the outgoing David Lisnard, for his part, submitted “a union list representative of the geographical, demographic and political diversity of municipalities and intermunicipalities”, specifies the AMF. At the head of the association for three years, he should therefore be re-elected at the next congress, from November 20 to 23.

Candidate with a PS mayor

Rising figure of the Republicans, the mayor of Cannes, 54 years old, will once again team up with the irremovable PS mayor of Issoudun André Laignel, 81 years old and first vice-president of the AMF since 2008. The two local councilors had already done alliance in 2021, winning over the centrist list led by the UDI mayor of Sceaux Philippe Laurent, supported by part of the right and the Emmanuel Macron camp.

An unprecedented dissidence in the long history of the AMF, which this year returns to its unitary tradition while remaining embodied by a right-wing elected official.
