After its record hunt on Monday, the Dax took a break. With a decrease of 0.06 percent to 16,749.36 points, the leading German index remained below last Friday’s record of 16,782 points. Like the Dax, its Eurozone counterpart EuroStoxx 50 has barely budged recently. The M-Dax of medium-sized German companies started the new week with a loss of 0.43 percent to 26,576.70 points.

Since the October low of 14,630 points, the year-end rally has lifted the Dax by up to almost 15 percent. With a price increase of a good 20 percent since the beginning of the year, it has the best annual results since the pre-Corona year of 2019.

The last important interest rate decisions of the year are coming up this week – on Wednesday evening in Washington and on Thursday in Frankfurt and London. No interest rate steps are expected from the US Federal Reserve or the European Central Bank (ECB) before Christmas. The respective meetings are crucial for the market’s expectations as to when and how significantly interest rates will be reduced in the new year, wrote analyst Michael Hewson from broker CMC Markets.

On the corporate side, the drug researcher Morphosys was the focus. Its share price jumped by more than 10 percent after details of important study data for the drug candidate Pelabresib.

Outside the important indices, Uniper shares were in similar demand with an increase of eleven percent. On Friday after the stock market closed, the nationalized energy company announced that it would at least theoretically be able to pay a dividend again from 2024. This would make the company more attractive again for future investors. An extraordinary general meeting had decided on the necessary capital measures.
