Long before settling down with his wife, actress Kristen Bell, Dax Shepard made a memorable play for Kate Hudson during a casual card game. On an October 2026 episode of his Armchair Expert podcast, the 51-year-old actor walked podcast guests Sara and Erin Foster through his initial encounter with the Running Point star, who was 47 at the time of the discussion.
At the time, Kate was still married to Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson.

Kate and Robinson had been married for nearly seven years from 2000 to 2007 before they eventually separated, with Robinson being 59 years old.

Shepard and Hudson Have Built Families Elsewhere
She noted that the couple was inseparable during their time together, spending their days making out and wearing beanies.
Both actors have since built long-term families elsewhere. Shepard married actress Kristen Bell — star of Nobody Wants This — in October 2013, and the couple shares two daughters, 13-year-old Lincoln and 11-year-old Delta. Kate Hudson has been engaged to musician Danny Fujikawa since September 2021, and she has three children: 22-year-old Ryder with Robinson, 15-year-old Bingham with Muse frontman Matt Bellamy, and 8-year-old daughter Rani Rose with Fujikawa.
