It has been over five years since Day6 performed in the Big Apple, and fans, affectionately known as My Day, have been itching to see the Billboard chart-topping group perform live. Band members Sungjin, Young K, Wonpil, and Dowoon poured their heart and soul onto the stage at The Theater at Madison Square Garden, declaring that since it was the last stop on their North American tour, they wanted to end it with a bang.
“It’s been five years and seven months since we performed here in New York City. I’m so happy right now…You guys have waited such a long time for us, and we as well have been [waiting] to come back to you guys. Thank you for taking the time to buy our tickets and coming all the way here and making this performance with us,” Wonpil said.
Day6 entranced the crowd with their dynamic showmanship, playing fan favorites like ‘Zombie,’ ‘Shoot Me,’ ‘Welcome to the Show,’ and ‘Congratulations.’ The band expressed their appreciation for My Day’s staunch support, adding that their fans are the medicine they need to keep motivated. They shared that they are “Hoping that our songs, which melt into every moment of yours, will be infinite. We dream of eternity with you again. FOREVER YOUNG.”
“I will tell you the truth. You guys are my medicine. I was unhappy, but when I saw you, that disappeared. I want to be medicine for you guys,” Dowoon said. “I try my best to have a positive mind and live a positive life for you guys. Thank you for allowing me to have such a wonderful, happy moment today. It was a day that I will not forget.”
As the roar of screams reverberated throughout the theater, fans raised their fists in the air, many of whom were adorned with Day6’s signature wrist lightstick, and called out to the members with fervor.
For Queens natives, 24-year-old Lilia Torres and her 17-year-old sister, Duck Torres, Day6 has helped fortify their bond together, where they can share in the comfort of the music as well as trips to see the group.
“They mean happiness, comfort. I just stumbled upon them, and I just fell in love with them. So their music feels like a warm hug,” Torres said. “I feel really warm inside when I listen to them.”
“I’ve just been listening to their music, and it’s really been helping me reconnect with my sister because I heard it during middle school, and when I got older, I was able to go outside more with my sister and hang out for K Pop events like Day6,” Duck Torres added. “If I could say anything to Day6, I’d say thank you for making my sister happy, and thank you for giving me an opportunity to hang out with her.”
Each member took a moment to toss their heads back with their eyes closed, taking in the moment of their sold-out show as fans sang along to their music. With a burst of confetti, the night ended, and the group shared that the electric energy of the night kept them invigorated.
“Each and every one of you are amazing. You guys made Day6 come back to America. If it weren’t for you guys, we could not be here! So, if you can do that, you can do anything. So, believe in yourself and believe in us, we’ll believe in you. When your days go by and there might be something that doesn’t work out well…[know that] there’s always Day6’s music. I hope it helps. That’s actually why we make music,” Young K said.
