“Just like those who listen to the song, we are also people in the midst of our youth, so I think we feel similar emotions through the music. No matter what field you are in, you are always striving to achieve your goals. I personally think that ‘Welcome to the Show’ and ‘Become a Page’ are songs that go well with sports.” (Seongjin)

The song of the band ‘DAY6’, which ‘became a page of youth’, is spreading all over the world. The audience’s chant at various festivals and festivals, as well as the special stage recently presented at the ‘2024 KBO All-Star Game Cleaning Time’, is still being talked about.

Even during the ‘2024 Paris Olympics’, ‘Welcome to the Show’ and ‘Let’s Be One Page’ were heard here and there, and on August 12th (based on Korean time), the day of the Olympic closing ceremony, ‘Welcome to the Show’ rose to 12th place on Melon’s ‘Top 100’ chart, the largest music platform in Korea, and on the 30th of the same month, it rose to 8th place, achieving its highest ranking.

On the 2nd, Day6’s Sungjin stated through his agency JYP Entertainment, “Rather than saying it’s a factor in popularity, if I were to carefully say it’s my own pride, I think a good song will definitely shine someday. I’m also looking forward to what kind of results we’ll achieve through this album.”

DAY6 will release their 9th mini album ‘Band Aid’ at 6 PM today. It will be about 6 months since their previous album ‘Forever’. All members of DAY6, including Wonpil, Sungjin, Young K, and Dowoon, were discharged from the military last winter. They released ‘Forever’ in March of this year and opened a new chapter for the team with the title song ‘Welcome to the Show’.

During his military service, the song “You Were Beautiful” released in February 2017 and the title song “Become a Page” from his fifth mini-album released in July 2019 achieved double reverse sales. “Welcome to the Show” also received consistent love, rising to the top of the music charts.

The title of this album, which is being released amidst much interest, is a combination of the word ‘Band’, meaning rock group, and ‘Aid’, meaning help. It promises to ‘provide warm comfort and healing anytime, anywhere.’

The title song ‘Melting’ delivers the message that when the world seems to be freezing in despair, everything melts because of ‘you’. The light yet strong sweet and salty charm, various drum beats based on melodic funk sounds, and dramatic chord compositions of the sound encourage and give strength to hope.
Day6 is celebrating their 10th debut anniversary this year, and Sungjin said, “We’ve tried many songs that have a bit more color in terms of sound and genre. Of course, we have a message to convey, but I think the listeners’ impressions are also important, so I’m curious to hear what opinions and interpretations they’ll give us.”

Wonpil also agreed, saying, “We will continue to maintain Day6’s unique color, but I think we need to make some changes. That’s why we prepared songs that reflect our challenging side for this album.” However, he added, “The songs have changed, but the message we deliver remains the same. We and our listeners are living in the same world, so we put in the thought of ‘let’s gain the strength to live together. ’”

Young K said that because there is so much good music in the world, they always worry about ‘what kind of music should we do?’ However, he explained, “For this album, I tried to write as I felt like it came naturally as I lived. The songs created through various ideas each have a different atmosphere, but overall, this album seems to deal with the theme of ‘comfort.'” He expressed his hope that, “Like the album title ‘Band Aid,’ this album will be helpful to many people.”

JYP summarized that “Melting”, which features warm lyrics flowing over a cool funk sound, well represents DAY6’s identity of conveying emotions of empathy and comfort.

Young K said, “I think it’s a song that would suit the weather in fall, and it would also suit snowflakes in winter,” and added, “There’s a part in the lyrics that uses the expressions ‘slurp’ and ‘gurgle’, and I think the melody and nuance of that are the point. I had a hard time revising it, but I had no choice but to keep it.”

Wonpil said, “‘Melting’ had a really good feeling from the beginning of the work. There are songs that make you feel good when you work on them, and this song was one of them. I think it’s refreshing and cold, but also warm, so I think it’ll be a song that won’t go with the seasons.”

Young K, who wrote the lyrics, explained, “I imagined enduring the cold world with a warm word or a hug. And I tried to add the flavor and fun of singing to the feeling of the words. I wrote the lyrics with the hope that it would make you feel good when you listen to it because I like the feeling the song gives.”

He also interpreted that he was confident that the members would listen and accept whatever he said or did, and that this was comforting. He confessed, “Our My Day (fandom name: My Day) is the same. I was someone who had a hard time letting go. I know that you can’t satisfy everyone because everyone has different opinions when you’re with an unspecified number of people, but I think that’s what I wanted to do.” He added, “However, I think I was able to melt away little by little thanks to the people who cheered me on and smiled at me every time I took a step forward.”

Following the solo concert ‘Welcome to the Show’, which sold out a total of 33,000 seats in three performances at the 360-degree fully open Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul last April, they will begin their third world tour ‘Forever Young’ at the Incheon Inspire Arena from the 20th to the 22nd. This is their first new world tour in approximately 4 years and 8 months since January 2020.

Wonpil said, “I think the reason we’re able to do a world tour again after such a long time is thanks to My Day fans who never forgot us and cheered us on,” and added, “I sincerely thank you. I want to show you a performance that will be an unforgettable memory as you’ve waited for so long. Please look forward to it!”

Day6, who became a hot topic early last month as the sub-headliner for the ‘2024 Pentaport Rock Festival’, chose “Seoul World Cup Stadium” (Young K) as the band’s dream stage. Wonpil also said, “I wish it was a concert hall where I could see the sky when the weather is nice. We could all look up at the sky during the concert, it’d be so pretty and cool.”

It has become synonymous with reverse running, and Sungjin, Wonpil, and Dowoon all chose “Zombie” as another candidate for reverse running. Young K said that he is so happy that “HAPPY” is being loved again recently. “That song is a cry for those who want to be happy, and it is a comfort that comes from knowing that you are not alone in wishing for that, so I am so glad that so many people are listening to it.”
Lastly, the members said this to My Day, who was with them at every moment.

“I think I vaguely imagined and drew a moment like this one day. I hope everyone is healthy and happy like they are now. I love My Day.” (Sungjin)

“There were times when it was hard to get to this day I’ve always dreamed of, but I think I tried to overcome it rather than give up. I think it was possible because I was surrounded by good people. When things were hard, My Day’s gaze kept leading me to the stage, and the members were with me at every moment. So I hope this luck and happiness lasts as long as possible. I’m always grateful and I love you all.” (Young K)

“Ever since I was a trainee, I always wanted to stand on stage as a band in front of many people, and while the members were always sincerely working on music and performances, I’m so thankful that My Day made my dream come true. I sincerely thank you for discovering us. I also thank My Day, our company family, Ji Sang-hyung (composer Hong Ji-sang), and the staff for allowing us to shine like this. My dream for the future is to continue to do our music with my hyungs and Do-woon, just like I have done so far. Until the end of my life. I’ve blamed myself and felt anxious, but I think I’m where I am today because of those times. We’re all living in the same time. I hope you take care of your current selves and live your lives. I really hope you’ll gain a little more strength after listening to this album. Let’s live well together. I love you♥” (Wonpil)

“I think that everything would have been impossible without My Day. I sincerely thank you for giving me such happiness. As I always say, I will do my best to repay the love you have given me by making music fun and exciting just like I do now, so please keep watching over me. Thank you and I love you!” (Dowoon)
