Companies are considering bringing satellite network. Now news related to Reliance Jio has come out. India’s second largest telecom operator has sent a reply related to this to TRAI. Actually, Jio has mentioned that it should reconsider the consultation paper regarding its satellite spectrum pricing. Jio believes that these papers do not create coordination between terrestrial and satellite network providers. Questions have also been raised by the telecom operator regarding the allocation of airwaves. There has been strong opposition to giving spectrum to satellite players. Jio says that if someone wants to use the satellite network for commercial use, then it should be done through auction only. Not doing this causes a lot of loss. This means that Jio is taking the satellite spectrum auction seriously.
The auction option was opposed by Satcom companies. He said that this process is not good for his business. Example of global market was also given by the companies. According to ET, Jio has written to TRAI that this consultation paper and its resulting recommendations are vulnerable to legal challenges, especially because it fails to address the issue mentioned in the DoT context, such as ensuring a level playing field.
DoT told TRAI, all these things will be considered now. Actually Jio wants that no one should get this spectrum without auction. For this, the process should be followed by the companies. If we look at the global market in the race for satellite networks, Elon Musk is seen to be at the forefront. Full focus is being given on this from their side.
