The DAZN platform will remain the main broadcaster of the Italian championship until 2029.

Sports streaming platform DAZN will remain the main broadcaster of the Italian Football Championship until 2029 as part of a global deal worth 4.5 billion euros, the Italian Football League announced on Monday .

According to this agreement accepted by 17 of the twenty elite clubs during a general assembly of the League, DAZN, which has been the main broadcaster of Serie A in Italy since 2021, will pay 700 million euros per year, between 2024 and 2029. The platform will continue to have ten matches on the program for each day of the championship, seven of which are exclusive, the other three also being broadcast by the Sky satellite package.

Thanks to this agreement, the Italian League will receive 900 million euros each season, an amount lower than the 927.5 million EUR per season received between 2021 and 2024, and the 973 million EUR received between 2018 and 2021. But the platform British, nicknamed “the Netflix of sport” has committed to paying 50% of its revenues when they exceed 750 million euros per season.

According to the general director of the Italian League Luigi De Siervo, this provision would guarantee a total of “at least 960 million euros per season”. Sky, which was the main broadcaster until 2021, currently pays EUR 87.5 million per season, but will pay an unspecified higher sum to be able to choose the three matches it will broadcast. Three clubs had expressed their opposition to this project, before the general assembly of the League: these are the reigning Italian champion Naples, Fiorentina and Salernitana.
