“Our demand is to cancel the district administrator (DC) recruitment notification and re-appointment based on honesty, merit, skill and competence.” This was stated by Nurul Hafiz, an officer who was ‘deprived’ of the post of DC. He is a 25th batch officer of administration cadre.
He said this to reporters at the Secretariat of the Ministry of Public Administration on Wednesday (September 11).
This Deputy Secretary said, there was supposed to be a briefing from the Cabinet Division about the District Administrators. We have been informed that it has been cancelled.
What is your demand – In response to the question of the journalists, Nurul Hafiz said, “Our demand is that the notification has been canceled and new posts should be made here on the basis of honesty, merit, skill and competence.”
He said, many of the officers who have been posted have complaints against them, after looking into them, those officers who are meritorious, competent and honest should be posted.
When asked if an officer was assaulted on Tuesday, do you think it sends a good message to the administration, the deputy secretary said, “You seem to be doing something wrong.” No one was actually assaulted yesterday.
We have seen a video – when attention was drawn to this, Nurul Hafeez said, no officer was assaulted, you have seen it wrong. What happened, while talking to the officers, they themselves made a fuss. But nobody misbehaved with any officer.
He expressed optimism about meeting the demands. This official said, we are optimistic. In response to a question from journalists, this government official said, we are not against everyone, those who are not corrupt, those who are competent and talented, those who have no claims against them, we are not talking about them.
If you want to know how many people your complaint is against, Nurul Hafiz said, it is being analyzed one to one. Complaints are not against everyone.
This deputy secretary said, the one who has been posted as the DC of Chittagong is also with us. Many of them do not want that such an unwanted appointment has happened, the fact that many of them do not want.
He said, we are not doing any movement. Here everyone is talking peacefully with sirs. You will find a logical solution to the matter.
They have gathered like this for cancelation after appointment, never seen before. Nurul Hafiz said that many things are changing with the change of government. On the eve of building a new Bangladesh, everyone wishes that those honest, competent and talented officers are posted in every segment, in every place.
When asked what assurances were given to you by the Secretary of Public Administration and the Cabinet, he said, “They gave an assurance to cancel the notification.”
He further said that we hold the ideals of this student movement and the current government.
