De Skulp Friesland is getting started with the Positive Health concept

by time news

FRYSLAN – De Skulp Friesland is going to work with the Positive Health concept. The foundation, with centers for life with and after cancer in Heerenveen, Drachten, Sneek and Leeuwarden, can therefore better help people with cancer to regain their resilience.

This is possible thanks to a subsidy from Stichting De Friesland of € 41,303 and the Oranjefonds of € 6,900 for a three-year project.

Annie Adema and Anneke Jonker are coordinator volunteers at De Skulp Friesland, where weekly guests with cancer can go for psychosocial care, as well as partners, relatives and friends. They come to De Skulp for a listening ear, relaxation, contact with fellow sufferers and support.

Better in their own skin

“Cancer often makes people live more consciously,” say Annie Adema and Anneke Jonker, “And Positive Health helps people discover what suits them and what they need. By having the other conversation, they gain more insight. We notice that they regain their resilience and feel better about themselves. In the next three years we want to implement Positive Health within De Skulp Friesland. This means that the hostesses and gentlemen will be trained in this, our offer will be broadened, we will be open on more days and we will make contacts with partners who can support us in this and start working with us”.

The coordinators guide this process and will do their best to inform as many people as possible about Positive Health.

Own direction

Annie and Anneke:,, We see De Skulp Friesland as a permanent place in the oncological care path. Informal care, which we fall under, can be a good addition to regular care. We hear from our guests that they often fall into a hole after the treatments and are still looking for something “different”. Using the 6 dimensions of positive health care, we have a tool to support people in this. It is important to “have your own direction” of the guest. If necessary, we will also deploy professionals with the aim of including psychological care within De Skulp as part of cancer care in the 4 Frisian hospitals.”

Higher quality

De Skulp offers activities in the field of relaxation such as yoga, massage and mindfulness; creative activities; exercise such as walking, dancing and sports; support in daily functioning and better quality of life; and lectures are given about nutrition, meaning, mourning and loss.

There are currently more than 800,000 people living with or after cancer, with 1.4 million expected by 2030. Together with KWF and the umbrella organization IPSO, the Skulp Friesland is working to provide high-quality and accessible care for everyone affected by cancer. Due to the increasing pressure on care providers, the centers see that more and more referrals are made to De Skulp.
