The director of the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) warned this Thursday that she will persecute any official who helps drug cartels in Mexico or in any country.

During an appearance before the House Appropriations Committee, Anne Milgram was asked if the DEA has information that Mexican government officials are helping drug cartels. “Are there actors in the government with whom [la DEA] You don’t want to try because you know they are corrupt?” he was asked.

Milgram responded: “Congressman, we are following the evidence wherever it leads.” As an example, he cited the case of the former president of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández, who was arrested. “The corruption was part of that investigation. We follow that evidence.” He also spoke about the case of the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro. “Corruption was part of the investigation,” he said.

We will continue that path, Milgram stressed. “We are talking about corruption that fuels drug trafficking, in Mexico and globally. So we will go where the evidence and the facts lead us.”

At the appearance, Milgram faced a barrage of criticism over the accusations against him for awarding million-dollar contracts to former partners.
