Deadline Approaches: Apply Now for Reduced Electricity Tariffs Under the Social Household Tariff Program

by time news

The application process for inclusion in the Social Household Tariff (KOT) for electricity continues for the next 12 months.

Beneficiaries must reapply by October 3; otherwise, they will automatically be excluded from KOT.

The social household tariff is lower by 4.5-7.5 cents per kilowatt-hour (depending on the beneficiary’s category) compared to the normal tariff of the respective provider. In other words, significant discounts are ensured for those eligible.

The applications for KOT and the Registry of Vulnerable Customers are checked based on:

  • The 2023 tax declaration, concerning income and household composition.
  • The last settlement of ENFIA (2023), concerning real estate.

Citizens who submitted an application from 03/08/2024, and before the completion of the ENFIA 2024 settlement, and who have changes in their real estate within 2023 (ENFIA 2024 settlement), may, if they wish, submit a new application, which will be checked regarding real estate based on the last ENFIA settlement (2024).

It is reminded that:

  • Citizens can submit an application at any time they wish during the year (after first canceling any existing submitted application).
  • After two months from the end of the deadline for submitting tax declarations (from 03/08/2024 to 03/10/2024), those active beneficiaries who have not submitted a new application will be automatically removed from KOT.

Beneficiaries of the social household tariff

A. There are two categories of beneficiaries:

a. Those who meet the requirements for the granting of the Social Solidarity Income are included in KOT A.

b. Those who meet the following requirements are included in KOT B:

  • They have an annual total actual or deemed income, up to the limits of the table we publish.

For a household that includes a person or persons with a disability of sixty-seven percent (67%) or more, the income limits increase by 8,000 euros.

For a household that includes a person or persons who need mechanical support through the use of medical devices, which are provided at home and are essential for their survival, the income limits increase by 15,000 euros.

For each additional adult member, an amount of 4,500 euros is added, and for each additional minor member, an amount of 2,250 euros, up to a total limit of 31,500 euros regardless of the number of household members. This specific ceiling (31,500 €) increases by 8,000 euros for a household that includes a person or persons with a disability of sixty-seven percent (67%) or more and by 15,000 euros for a household that includes a person or persons who need mechanical support through the use of medical devices, which are provided at home and are essential for their survival.

  • They have themselves and the members of the household, real estate, in Greece or abroad, with a total taxable value of up to 120,000 euros for a single-member household, increasing by 15,000 euros for each additional member and up to a maximum limit of 180,000 euros.
  • The members of the household do not fall under the provisions of the luxury tax and do not declare living expenses for payments to crews of recreational vessels, tuition in private schools, and for housekeepers, drivers, teachers, and other personnel.

B. The application for inclusion in KOT must be submitted every year in order to recheck the conditions of inclusion. Applications are submitted electronically through IDIKA by the person required to submit the income tax declaration of the household or their spouse, with the necessary condition that the electricity supply is already in the name of the applicant or their spouse. Each household receives KOT only for the supply to the primary residence.

C. KOT applies to the total four-month consumption and up to the respective limits provided for each beneficiary category are as follows:

  • Single-member household 1400 kilowatt-hours
  • Household with two adult members or single-parent family with one minor member 1600 kilowatt-hours

This specific maximum limit (2,400 kWh) increases by 300 kWh for a household that includes a person or persons with a disability of 67% or more and by 600 kWh for a household that includes a person or persons who need mechanical support through the use of medical devices, which are provided at home and are essential for their survival.
