A new reform of entry into health studies is looming, with the support of the conference of deans of medicine, which, during its return to school on Tuesday September 19, drew a very mixed assessment of the implementation, in 2020, licenses with health access (L.AS) and specific health access pathways (PASS).

These renovated courses had put an end to the common preparatory year for health studies (Paces). They were designed to diversify the profiles of students and demonstrate the contribution, in addition to health studies, of parallel training in a degree in the human and social sciences family, facing the challenges of chronic illnesses and aging. of population or the artificial intelligence revolution.

After three years, Benoît Veber, dean of the Rouen faculty, who chairs the conference, considers it necessary to limit the number of licenses with health access, which some universities offer by the dozens: “It is not natural to start a law degree to study medicine or pharmacy. Licenses in biology, chemistry, physics or science and techniques of physical and sporting activities are more logical. We must restore coherence to the reform. »

“Very questionable interclassification system”

Pour “simplify” a system that remains misunderstood, the dean recommends that each university take stock and remove inefficient L.AS. “In Rouen, we have thirteen L.AS and some have only allowed one student to succeed in entering the second year. Is it worth it? »he asks bluntly.

Decidedly unconvinced by the reform, the conference of deans proposed establishing, at the end of the first year, a common health test, which would serve as a benchmark “fair and readable” for juries. This would put an end to a “highly questionable interclassification system” which separates students from different L.AS and PASS who have validated their license year and whose grades remain poorly comparable. “This ranking results in a ranking that we call “Z score”. It’s a black box, which leads to multiple appeals”constate M. Veber.

Finally, the oral test should be taken by all candidates, without being a cut-off: “The oral must count for 30% of the final mark, maximum”estimates the dean of Rouen, distancing himself from certain colleagues who have overvalued this service by up to 70%, where the candidate is questioned on subjects not relating to the medical field.
