Palakkad ∙ A case has been registered against three doctors of a private hospital in Yakara, Palakkad, for the death of a woman and her baby after giving birth. The police action was taken on the complaint of the relatives that Aishwarya and her child died due to medical malpractice.
The post-mortem report, which states that the baby died with the umbilical cord wrapped around its neck, is also an indication that there was a mistake. Relatives and locals protested in front of the hospital for more than five hours demanding the arrest of the doctors. After confirming the death of Aishwarya, who was being treated in the intensive care unit, the relatives had besieged the hospital.
The cries of the relatives brought tears to the eyes. Amid protests, Aishwarya’s body was shifted to the district hospital. The locals and Aishwarya’s relatives were of the position that they will not back down without arresting the doctors who caused the medical malpractice. The police said that a case of involuntary manslaughter has been registered against the three doctors.
When the relatives took the stand that they would withdraw only after the Collector came, the RDO arrived and assured action against the culprits. Aishwarya’s baby’s body, which was hidden by the hospital staff, was taken out and the post-mortem was conducted again at the district hospital.
It has been proved that the umbilical cord was strangulated around the neck. It was also found that the baby was taken out using a vacuum. There is a complaint that Aishwarya’s uterus was removed without informing her relatives and she was approached to sign it later.
