The Muscular Dystrophy Patients Association in Libya announced the death of the child Naji Saleh Al-Suwaisi from the city of Benghazi after suffering from the disease.

Last Wednesday, the association announced the death of Mansour Hussein Abdul Rahman from the city of Sabha, explaining that he died as a result of complications in the heart muscle, and pointing out that he had two brothers who were unable to conduct the genetic analysis because it was stopped, according to the association.

The association also announced last Monday the death of the child Bayan Muhammad Abdul Karim from the city of Tripoli after suffering in intensive care.

Last June, a number of muscular dystrophy patients called on the unity government to find a radical solution to the health obstacles they face throughout the country, especially those related to their access to medication.

In a protest held on Tuesday in Tripoli, patients held the government responsible for the delay in providing medicines and health care, especially after a number of patients lost their lives. They demanded that procedures be facilitated in some service offices, especially in the southern region.

The statement stressed the need to launch a special national programme to treat muscular dystrophy patients and allocate a fully equipped hospital for them.

For its part, the Muscular Dystrophy Patients Association in Libya called for returning the file of muscular dystrophy patients to the Ministry of Health, expressing its dissatisfaction with the inability to provide medicines, open genetic analyses, and open a health care unit for atrophy patients.
