Twenty-Twenty activist Deepu’s accused of murder in murder. Zainuddin Salam, Abdul Rahman, Abdul Aziz and Bashir, all CPI (M) activists arrested in the incident, have been charged with murder.

CK Deepu (38) died yesterday at Chayattunal in Kavungapparambu Parappuram Harijan Colony where he was undergoing treatment after being harassed by CPI (M) activists in East Kambalam. Deepu was beaten up by CPM activists after she took part in a street light challenge to protest the lights on the East Coast.

Meanwhile, Deepu’s body will be postmortem today. The postmortem will be conducted at Kottayam Medical College. After completing the inquest proceedings, Deepu’s body was brought to Kottayam Medical College last night.

The postmortem will begin at 9 a.m. today. Deepu’s body will then be placed on public display at East Coast. The body will be taken home for a mourning procession. Burial will be in a public cemetery after the funeral. Twenty20 activists allege that Kunnathunadu MLA PV Sreenijan was behind the attack on Deepu. However, PV Sreenijan denies the allegations.

The MLA and the government had decided to hold a 15 – minute protest in their homes, citing KSEB’s obstruction of the Street Light Challenge called by Twenty20. As part of this, Deepu also took part in a protest at home. It is alleged that Deepu was beaten up by a group of CPM activists. He was rescued by a ward member and neighbors.

Deepu, who sustained serious head injuries, vomited blood and was in critical condition. He was rushed to Palanganadu hospital for treatment. He was shifted to Aluva Rajagiri Hospital for specialist treatment. Deepu, who was in critical condition, underwent emergency surgery but died yesterday.
