Death of little Rayan: UN offers condolences, salutes efforts of rescuers

United Nations (New York) – The United Nations on Monday expressed its condolences to the grieving family of baby Rayan, following the tragic accident that cost him his life, while commending the efforts of rescuers to save him.

At his daily press briefing, the deputy spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Farhan Haq, said that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was “saddened by this news. Our hearts are with (Rayan’s) family and community.”

“We salute the work and time devoted by the rescuers to save” little Rayan,” he added.

Rescue teams managed, on Saturday evening, after 5 days of continuous efforts, to extract the child Rayan Aourram who fell into a well in the commune of Tamorot, in the province of Chefchaouen.

Following this tragic incident, HM King Mohammed VI had a phone call with the parents of little Rayan during which the Sovereign expressed His deepest condolences and sincere compassion to all the members of the deceased’s family in this painful ordeal, the divine will being unstoppable, imploring the Almighty to welcome him in His holy mercy and in His vast paradise, and to grant patience and comfort to his family.

The burial of Rayan Aourram took place on Monday after the prayers of Addohr and the deceased, in the commune of Tamorot.
